WiFi Routers

Some may recall that I'm looking for a wifi router to work with my DS
and Wii.

I dropped into PC World (I'd like to buy from bricks & mortar to make
returns simple) and made a note of all the WiFi routers they offered.

Does anyone have any of the following and can confirm their
compatibility with DS and Wii?

DLink DI-524
Belkin F5D7231uk4 v2001uk
Belkin F5D7230uk4 v6000uk
Netgear WGR614 (This one is actually listed as compatible on
nintendowifi.com but only gets 2/5 stars)
Philips SNB5600
Linksys WRT54G

Linksys WRT54G
(well actually it's a WRT54GS)

I've had no problems with anything thrown at it so far. Third party firmware
gives it more options too.

I had a linksys, it fell apart. Shoddy build quality.

You could drop my one from the leaning tower of Pisa and I'd be fairly sure
it wouldn't fall apart. Very sturdy. I've also never read a bad review of it
(and I've read a lot on it before buying).

You must have got the lucky one. In my experiance they seem pretty
unreliable. 3 of mine and a friends linksys router all snuffed it within a
years use.

Well I'll settle for that, but it does go against the overall vibe I got
before I bought. Also the HyperWRT firmware was a big reason I chose the one
I did.

That be mine, I believe (albeit a rebadged one). Works fine with Wii and DS.

Don't have experience with any of the above, but I'm currently using a
Netgear DG834GT and it works with the wii, and is perfectly stable.

Unlike the 3 Linksys (2x wag54 and 354) routers I've had in the past -
cheaply put together crap. The only good thing about them is that they
always conveniently break down within warranty.

I'll second that - my sister's DG834GT was an It Just Works affair.

My own DG834PN wasn't, I needed to manually set up the IP/gateway/DNS
on the Wii. Dunno why, everything else on the network including the DS
gets its DHCP packets without any problem.

I have the Netgear WGR614 and it works flawlessly with DS and Wii. Not
sure why it would only get 2/5 although there are some reports on Amazon
(I think) that say it can overheat.

That's promising. Do you know how many port ranges ('virtual servers' in
Belkin-speak) you can have open?

My old wired Linksys router only allowed a stingy 10 ranges but my current Belkin
offers a generous (>20?) number of ranges.

I have a D-Link, although not the model specified there. I have the d-link
504t which is probably a model or two below that.
Been using it for about 18 months with no problem on a laptop.

DLink DI-524
I've had the DI-524 for about a year now. I use it for connecting a Wii
and 3 DSs and so far I've had little trouble. Very occasionally I've
had to reboot it when I can't get a connection - maybe every other
month, i.e. enough times to notice, but not so often as to be
upsetting.

The Linksys WRT54G (and GS) has just 10 port forwarding slots by default,
but using this firmware... http://www.hyperwrt.org/ ...you can have 40 port
slots (as well as lots of other 'extras' not generally found in routers at
that price range).

Read up on 'hyperwrt' and you'll find some pretty happy campers out there.

Sorry, I don't know. I tried to have a look at the manual on the D-link
site (
http://www.dlink.co.uk/?go=jN7uAYLx/oIJaWVTALoZU9f8nJUIKOZUTMyka/O31g24UoR/kP98f8p8PasSjUJRe0uKslItnv1+cM7l1KviLEYYuOvZ

), but I'm getting strange FTP errors. I'd look at my manual but 1) I'm
at work right now and 2) I could have put it anywhere at home.

I am able to read it from home.
Thanks: It looks like an excellent device with a clear manual and
appears to support unlimited virtual servers.

I'll be picking one of thes up tomorrow evening!
